About the Role

School volunteers play a vital role in supporting the school community by providing additional assistance to students, teachers, and staff. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about education, enjoy working with children and young people, and want to make a positive impact on their learning and development.

Job Description and Person Specification

School Volunteer Responsibilities:

●      Depending on the chosen area of volunteering, duties may include:

○      Classroom Support: Assisting teachers with various tasks such as preparing materials, organising resources, supervising students during activities, and providing individual or small group support.

○      Reading Support: Working one-on-one with students to improve their reading fluency and comprehension skills.

○      Mentoring: Providing guidance and support to individual students, helping them with academic or personal challenges.

○      Administrative Support: Assisting with clerical tasks, photocopying materials, and organising school events.

○      Library Support: Helping students find books, assisting with story time, and keeping the library organised.

○      After-School Activities: Leading clubs, organising games, and supervising students during after-school programs.

○      Special Projects: Assisting with special events, fundraising activities, or school improvement projects.

●      All volunteers are expected to:

○      Be enthusiastic, reliable, and committed.

○      Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

○      Be patient and understanding with students of all ages and abilities.

○      Respect the school's policies and procedures.

○      Complete any necessary training, including child safeguarding training.


Skills and experience:

●      While specific skills and experience may vary depending on the chosen area of volunteering, some general skills and experience that are beneficial include:

○      Experience working with children or young people.
