About the Role
To provide targeted mentoring and hands-on personal development support to students with complex SEND. This role focuses on helping pupils build emotional resilience, improve self-regulation, and overcome behavioural barriers so they can fully engage in school life.

Key Responsibilities
Emotional Regulation and Mentoring Interventions
· Work directly with students on a 1:1 or small group basis to model, co-regulate and teach personalised emotional regulation techniques.
· Plan and run structured social-emotional interventions tailored to student needs, such as anger awareness sessions, self-esteem workshops or social stories.
· Lead targeted mentoring check-ins to build trust and supportive relationships with students.
Delivering Behaviour Support in Practice
· Put individual Behaviour Support Plans into daily practice, across the school, ensuring the consistent maintenance of boundaries, routines and positive reward systems.
· Support students inside the classroom environment to help them maintain focus, de-escalate anxiety and actively prevent known behavioural triggers.
· Lead post-incident reflections with students once they are calm, helping them process their emotions, understand their triggers and work to repair relationships.
Crisis Management and De-escalation
· Respond immediately to live behavioural incidents across the site, utilising physical intervention techniques when essential and verbal de-escalation techniques.
· Manage, oversee or support the use of low-arousal safe spaces or sensory rooms, providing a secure environment where students can safely go to decompress.
Data Tracking and Reporting
· Record comprehensive behavioural data, identifying environmental triggers and logging successful regulation strategies accurately on the tracking system.
· Report directly to the Engagement and Personal Development Lead regarding student progress, intervention outcomes and pastoral trends.

Qualification and Training | · Relevant professional qualification or training in youth work, counselling, sports coaching, social care, or education support. · Up-to-date certification in an accredited de-escalation/physical intervention. | · Certification in ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) or a related counselling/mentoring framework. |
Experience | · Proven experience working with young people with complex needs in an education, care, or community setting. · Experience delivering structured 1:1 or small group mentoring/social-emotional interventions. · Experience implementing individual behaviour plans and applying de-escalation techniques in high-stress situations. | · Experience working inside specialised low-arousal environments or sensory rooms. · Experience using restorative justice or post-incident reflection techniques with neurodivergent students.
